Tucson Gem Show 2022: Day Five

January 30, 2022

After an awesome morning adventure to the desert museum we headed over to our last venue to say hi to two vendors I work with throughout the year who ship stones to me — folks from Mexico and Colombia. I am so grateful to both of these small family businesses because my vendors are so incredibly kind, patient and helpful, hand selecting material for me and making videos of stones then mailing them to me!

Snagged a flat of beautiful little gemmy Veracruz amethyst, and then on my way to select Colombian copal with bug inclusions I spotted a bright yellow green out of the corner of my eye, and noticed some broken chunky material — yellow apatite from Durango Mexico! I was combing through the lower grade material when I noticed it went on and on, going towards the back of the tent, higher quality less picked over flats of rainbow filled glowie apatite goodness. Apatite is a favorite stone and energy of mine. And grows only in a few places, and often in harder rock, so getting clean high quality material is actually super difficult. I got one flat of high grade green Morocco apatite at Denver in 2019 and have been searching for more ever since. This yellow apatite from Mexico is one of my gem show unicorn finds (!!!) like searching and searching and finally I’ve found it. I was actually wearing a green apatite @numiolive collab talisman today and I think the apatite called in the other apatite for me.

Then on to see my wonderful Colombian folks who have a new baby, and also the most beautiful stones! They let me open a bunch of still carefully individually packed copal many of which had bugs! I picked out a bunch of phenomenal ones for you guys! Also snagged some Colombianite tektite and some stellar waterclear quartz! And with that, the Tucson 2022 gem show comes to an incredible finale. So much gratitude in my heart right now for this work that I do! You incredible humans who encourage me along and appreciate my stone finds and my wonderful vendors who source and transport and offer the most phenomenal material from all around the world right here!
